Well most of us know that we will perish and die after 3 days if we don't drink.
We rely so heavily on our taps working and we take it for granted that they will always deliver fresh water to us.
So...what happens if a terrorist group contaminate our water supplies and we are told not to drink the water from our taps.

    What would you do??

Many hundreds of thousands of people worldwide store water in 55 gallon drums in case such an event should happen.
(Yes water can be stored if stored properly.)
They have filtration pumps to drink water from rivers and streams, have water purification tablets, even just containers to collect water with.

    What do you have??

We roughly need 5 liters of water per day to drink, wash with to live semi comfortable.
When we had a fuel shortage in the UK, people were going crazy to get it. Garages sold out every where in no time, Imagine what will people be like if there was no water.
The tap stops and in 3 days we and our families are facing death.

    It's an interesting thought.

We buy insurance for our house, car, life ect. and in many cases live above our means.

Can storing water be classed as our life insurance for our selves that costs very little.
We have about a week's worth of food at home, many people store 6 months of canned food, rice, vacuum packed dry food in case of shortages or catastrophies.
Again are we living on a knives edge by not storing some extra food, are we blowing caution to the wind if we don't?

It's an interesting one for sure.

Almost all the towns and cities have an alarm system conected in reserve tanks or water pumping points, they are considered as strategic as well as the water and electric dams. My house has a reserve tank of 500 liters, but about food storage ... months agoI did have cans stored but since we eat more salad (for excess belly) just the right one for 1 week / 10 days.
If something happens, I will lose weight fast o_O

I've noticed mainly it's the Americans and Canadian people prepping, although this storing of water and food is growing in popularity in European countries.
Many keep it a secret that they store water and food. They fear that if a major crisis should hit they will fall victim's to people who want to steel there supplies.
I think that it's not a bad idea to store, but I feel that paranoia has crept in massively in America.
Underground bunkers are growing in popularity to. To hide from tornadoes, forest fires and attacks from groups.

As Tris says, it is the fear that their governments and TV inject people.

It certainly would be hectic and dangerous times ahead if the grid went down or like i said, water pollution.

Look into marine supplies for life boats. Water is already preserved for a long time.

It's a good idea to have 50/100 liters of drink water for 1 person. And there should be a store of food.
    Proved by tragedy of Leningrad.

Maybe I'm a happy man, my house is at one of the biggest rivers in Holland, so I have plenty of water ;). Got a few bags full of water purification tablets, just caus I didn't use themuch in the jungle in Asia where most of the springs was drinkable. It will sort itself out I guess

    Now your talking my language

I'm going to buy one of these and keep in my van.

I'm not sure on this model, but I think you can unscrew the end cap and screw a plastic Cola/ water bottle ( found and used to collect water from puddle or stream ) directly on. Tilt upside down and gentle squeeze.

My wife gave me one last year but I have not used it yet, it is a model with a membrane of 0.05 microns and according to the manufacturer it filters 99.99% the bacteria in the water.
    Approximate price € 45

Water from rivers etc I just drink without filtering. It's more the muddy pools in the jungle where water is still and doesn't have any current or anything, those I'm more careful with. For rest I just drink from the waterfalls etc. Ah and salt water I don't drink makes me puke xD
