Detectorist could use below universal settings when hunting for high conductors ("thick" copper/silver objects) with Sigrex (Signum/Sorex) metal detectors on any kind of a ground:

    - Coil's frequency should not be higher than 7 kHz
    - Ground Balance should be done over ferrite
    - Sound scheme RT-ST
    - RT/ST levels should be kept as low as possible (SuchMuch Remark: RT/ST should be set on high), metal detector should not produce a falsing in a stable position.
    - Control falsings with Gain. Don't be afraid to set Gain even on 1. A-Gain is a tool that is meant to be used.

Above settings guarantee all deep 5 kopecks Ekaterina 2 will be in copper zone. Strong Cold Rocks will be sounded with VDI +90, less strong Cold Rocks will not be sounded at all. All hot rocks will produce iron signals in sector close to a ground zone, you can assign a special tone for it. All non ferrous signals close to a ground zone should be checked thoroughly with direction of swinging several times changed, distance between coil and ground should be varied, it's worth to check in static mode as well. Scanning target with a coil's edge is an effective method to figure rusted iron out.

    P.S. :
Don't forget to shift Signum's frequency away from resonance when hunting on grounds with high amplitude ground signals (grounds with magnetite present in it) in order to suppress non linearity of ground signal. Signum's frequency should be shifted forward + until phase of ground balance is less influenced by an amplitude of ground signal (pumping coil closer/far, pumping fast/slowly). Sorex Pro detectorists shouldn't be awared of such manipulations, this mighty metal detector is designed by default to chop heavy ground rich in magnetite.

Above settings are suitable for any ground. In case of light grounds more Gain could be added, E.g.: Gain on 5 instead of Gain on 3 or on 4 (SuchMuch Remark: Sorex Pro's Gain is spoken about). With added Gain depth will increase, deep targets with low ratings will become available for detection.

Adding Gain to a level when metal detector grunts on a ground on each single swing is pointless. In this case metal detector will be constantly loaded with processing ground signals and could miss a target if not restored duly.

These settings are used with success not only to pick up high conductors, but for hunting on low conductors (including silver and gold stuff) as well. No need to say high frequency coil is the best for low conductors, however even with 7 kHz coil you are able to hit 4 mm lead hunting shots steady. Signal on 4 mm shot will be in copper zone but it will differ from 5 kopecks E2 signal.

As to my Sorex settings, I keep them as below:
    - Threshold on 18
    - Sensitivity on 16
    - Gain on 5
    - Autotracking is off

I do GB over ground I'm hunting on. I assigned tones to my best.

“Ground Balance should be done over ferrite” How to do it right?

Yeah, my all day settings on sorex as well. All filters on 0 / off and recovery speed on 2/3 an slow swinging and voila! Banging on copper and silver on great depths :D!
