Some guys practice hunting for scrap-metal and selling it to recycling companies.

There comes a question how to hunt effectivily for scrap-metal with AKAs?

Pls advise how do I set metal detector (RT, ST, Gain and other settings) or what Signum program to choose in order to hunt for large metal objects only? I'm about metal objects with weight 0,5-1 kg those slightly smaller and larger than food can. I can hunt in DEEP Mode but I really do not want to keep swinging coil high above ground. I'm hunting for scrap-metal only and I'm not concerned about coins, crosses and other old stuff. I want to set up Signum to be very deep and very calm at the same time and be ignorant to small ferrous and non ferrous small stuff. Pls share yr experience.

Sell yr Signum and get Sorex equipped with coil 6"x10"@7 kHz or 6"x10"@14 kHz, in this case there is no difference what frequency to choose: 7 kHz or 14 kHz. Set detector my way (SuchMuch Remark: Check thread: "Mr. Vladi's Sigrex (Signum/Sorex Pro) Versatile Settings"). Do ground balance over ferrite once and keep it forever. Set Gain on 3 and do not raise it higher. Keep distance of 20-30 cms above ground when swinging. Thus you'll be able to pick up solid, massive and long items only.

Sorex equipped with a small coil is much more lighter than Signum and, I must say, weight means a lot when you do large amplitude swings at high speed. With smaller metal detector weight you get less fatigue and your arm expresses less stress. All Signum advantages are useless when it deals with hunting for scrap-metal. Among AKAs Sorex is the most suitable detector for such kind of hunting.

Not long time after you started to hunt for scrap-metal you'll able to differ typical hodo shapes of large iron objects. Large iron produce long/extended sounds and you will not miss them with a small 6"x10" coil. 1 step with 1 swing is quet enough speed of walking to quickly cover the area and pick up all large stuff.

Signum could be downgraded to a level of a Sorex by shifting frequency away from resonance and lowering Gain down. Thus we can easiely transform Signum into Sorex.

By the way, with Signum's DEEP Mode you will be able to detect large objects located under iron carpet, with Sorex Pro you won't be able to do that.

Yes, you can downgrade Signum to a level of Sorex, but Signum is still heavier than Sorex by 20%-30%.

DEEP Mode is completely useless when you hunt for large iron scrap. Deep large iron objects produce strong signals those break through surface iron carpet easily.

use this settings , if not stable low ST , still sound discrimination due to RTM99
I use this program for war relics and works fine in my soil GS0010, if theres a big metal object Sig get OVERLOAD easy

    price of iron scrap 0,15€/Kg

Scrap metal ain't expensive hihi... I wouldn't spend time on digging it.. (€0,05 cents per KG). So you have to find a lot to make it affordable.

But funny to see some people are using aka for it.

But I have to say even if the signum is heavier, I'll prefer it above the Sorex caus signum is way better balanced
